Entertain and educate. That’s what we do.
We write and publish children’s books with the purpose of entertaining and/or educating kids. But there are other industries with the same purpose: toys and movies. If you capture an audience with publishing, toys, or movies, then you may have opportunities for licensing your characters, plot, story, and so on. You may originate in one industry and license into another. Or, it may be licensing for virtual reality, audio devices, t-shirts, or Halloween costumes. All of these are ways to extend your IP (intellectual property) to products that will bring in revenue.
This year, I decided to attend some conventions to see I could build some synergies. This is a series of four posts about what I’ve learned this year. These are my observations and lessons and may or may not translate directly to your experiences!
