Entertain and Educate: Publishing's Place in the Marketplace
Takeaways from the video and toy worlds!
Where Does Publishing Fit into the Entertain and Educate Kids Market?
At the Toy Fair, someone said it this way: Publishing is the low hanging fruit.
That is, the barriers and costs to enter publishing are low! The next most expensive industry is toys, followed by movies as the most expensive. We see publishing as hard and expensive (and it is!), but in the wider world, we are seen as reasonably expensive for the products you produce.
But it also means that we have accomplished something hard! We have successfully published a children’s book and started the path toward finding an audience. That is a huge leg up within the industries who entertain and educate kids. Going to the Toy Market, I had good state: my book, A LITTLE BIT OF DINOSAUR had been read 1,175,000 times on the EPIC! reading app. Would that translate to anything when I pitched it to toys? More than I ever expected - read on to find out how my year turned out.
Here are some takeaways from my year of visiting the entertain and educate kids conferences.
