Happy Chinese New Year!

On Saturday, my friend invited me to attend a Chinese New Year celebration, and it was a blast. It was a new look at Chinese culture as its embedded in the US culture.

Attending was an official from the Chinese Embassy in DC, and I was excited to meet Mr. Dong. Why? I just signed a 9-book translation deal with Foreign Language Teaching and Research Publishing company for translating my Moments in Science series into Chinese! I didn’t know if the diplomat Mr. Dong would know anything about publishing. But he said the publishing company is the #1 publisher for foreign language materials. Cool!

Darcy and Mr. Dong, from the Chinese Embassy, discussing children’s books.

Here’s the series—in English and the six-books translated into Korean!

So, it’s been a year of translations for me! In my local SCBWI group, Mariana Llanos does Spanish translations. I hired her to translate five picture books, and then—she won a Pura Belpre honor for her book, Benito and the Night Creatures. Here are the Spanish language books.

AND, this week, I decided to have one book translated into Catalan language, which has about 10 million speakers. It’s a test to see how it works.

Each project has been done a different way. Let me break down for you three different ways you can get your children’s book translated.
